The body of Christ and prophecy today

Believers whose righteousness is Christ, consider 1 Corinthians 12: 12 "The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.....26 If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. 27 "All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it."

All of us in Christ make up His body. Like the human body, we are many parts connected to "make up one whole" and we all "share the same Spirit."

This comparison of the parts of the body of Christ with the human body isn't there just to fill up space; the leg does not shy away from the hand that is about to slap it to kill a mosquito that is felt by the nerves and seen by the eye. Even though the slap might be painful, the leg stays still and receives the slap from the hand. Led by the head (Christ,) all the parts are connected and work together for the good of the whole body.

Now imagine that you are reclining on a sofa and an appendage from another body suddenly tries to stuff something in your mouth or suddenly slaps you on the leg. You'd immediately try to fend off the intruder with all of your might because it is not a member of your body. If it was, your body would cooperate because all the parts are connected. Only when your head knows of and trusts the external influence beforehand do you allow it.

Same thing with our lives in Christ and as members of His body. If anyone claiming to be in Christ comes to you who are in Christ with a prophecy that really is from God, be sure that it won't be news to you. Since we who believe are one body with Christ, you will know of it. It is very unlikely that your mouth will remain closed when your hand that is a part of your body approaches your mouth as you eat. See yourself as the mouth and this prophet as the hand on the same body. If his words are new to you, surprise you or make you afraid, beware of such. It might be an appendage that is not a member of the body of Christ to which you belong.

Believers, beware of those whose habit it is to come to you saying "God told me to tell you to do so and so," especially when their prophecy makes you who were previously at peace afraid and gets you scurrying in fear to do things to avert their projected disaster.

Prophecy today is a confirmation of what God has already revealed to His children, with Christ as our Head and we His body. It confirms what the Spirit has already made known to us. We all share the same Spirit so there is no confusion. If one part of the body is coming with a message or action for another part, the receiving part is already aware of it. Christ our Head leads us all.
