In Christ, God does not remember your past, present or future sins

Believers, in Christ, we are not under the “first covenant” of Law but under Grace. See our Lord God's word to us in Hebrews 8 regarding the new covenant (GRACE) that we have with Him in Christ Jesus-

"7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.

12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

Believers in Christ, consider verse 12 above. It starts with “For.” In order for us to enjoy the new covenant blessings of verses 10-11, our Lord God fulfilled the conditions in verse 12. But many believers think that God remembers their sins. In Christ, God does not remember our sins. Don’t let anyone deceive you into believing that God has your sin records filed away somewhere and will replay the video of your past sinful life for you before conscripting you to hell that Christ died to save us from. I heard this a lot while growing up:)

I let many things slide with my kids for many reasons e.g. “they’ve been very good lately” or “they did their best,” or “they couldn’t help themselves” or “l’m just too tired to correct or punish anybody.” Some FRSC officials will let you go with just a warning if you forgot your fire extinguisher at home. But things are different with the law of Moses: no sin goes unpunished no matter how sorry or how ignorant the sinner is.

In Christ, God did not forgive our sins because we are cute and cuddly or because He knows that we are sorry. God MUST punish EVERY sin. He cannot bend the rules for anybody. His righteousness demands that. payment be made for sins and the wages of sin is death; a death that He gave His own Son to die for us because He loved us so.

We are forgiven and granted acquittal from judgment on a righteous foundation - Jesus Christ who had no sins of His own to die for. He died for ours. Our acquittal from judgment is not based on our own obedience but on the obedience of Christ. God will not punish the same sin twice. Christ overpaid the wages of our sin. God is righteous in saving the sinner who puts his faith in Jesus Christ. See Romans 3:26-28:

“...and He makes sinners right in His sight when they believe in Jesus. 27 Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. 28 So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.”

Also check out our Abba Father’s word in Hebrews 8:11 which we get to enjoy because He is merciful to our unrighteousness and no longer remembers our sins:

"None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.”

The word "know" is used twice in the passage but they aren't the same word in the original Greek translation. They mean different things! The first in:

"None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’"

The word "know" here is from the greek word "ginosko" which means "to know experientially." It is knowledge gained by trial and practice. It depends on you. This is of the Law. It speaks of human effort at knowing God.

The second: "for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them."

The word "know" here is from the greek word "eido" which means "to know intuitively." It is knowledge perceived immediately, and requiring no application of reason. Knowing the Lord this way has got nothing to do with our own efforts at getting to know Him by keeping the Law. It's all the Lord's doing. It's a gift. This is Grace!

We see this in Christ's words in John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him [giving him the desire to come to Me]; and I will raise him up [from the dead] on the last day."

Also in  Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

From being called by the Father and doing His good pleasure to being caught up with Christ at His coming (The Rapture). Nothing to do with us. All to do with our wonderful Saviour and Shepherd Jesus Christ who leads us on the path of righteousness. We get to live right. We get to be free from sinful habits and addictions.

In Christ, we are taught by the Lord Himself. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things. The Lord our Shepherd makes us lie down in green pastures where we feed on what came through Him (Grace and Truth) that brings life; and not the Law which was given by Moses. The letter kills.

Believers, just send God’s Word (Grace) into people’s lives by faith and trust the Holy Spirit to do the teaching and imparting; and the transforming to the image of the Lord's glory, from glory to glory. 2 Corinthians 3:18. Remember the Law is not of faith!

Believe Right and you will Live Right.
