What is the purpose of the Law?

Believer, the gospel of Christ is Grace- undeserved, unearned, unmerited favour. Grace never condemns. Grace saves, even salvation from sins. Grace is a Person. His name is Jesus Christ. Christ did not come to make it okay for us to sin. NEVER!!! He came to save us from our sins as it is written in Matthew 1:21-

"She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Let’s take our blessed brains to church: how can our Saviour who came to save us from our sins use those very sins that He came to save us from as an excuse for not saving us and even punish us for the sins that He came to save us from? This is akin to an oncologist dad refusing to treat his own beloved child who has cancer (sin nature inherited from Adam) and even punishing his child for exhibiting symptoms of the disease (acts of sin.)

No friend. God's eyes burn at sin but radiate perfect love for the sinner who believes. He fills us with the only spiritual "chemo" aka His Spirit through whom we "are being transformed to the image of His glory, from glory to glory"(2 Cor. 3:18) as we keep on seeing ourselves as God sees us in Christ: Rghteous by His blood (Romans 5:9)

Many religious people think that we "True Grace" children just want an excuse to wallow in sins, but can you imagine feeling great guilt and condemnation because you said "she spilled water all over the floor" when the water didn't really cover the entire floor? Can you imagine being fearful of God's judgment because you responded with "12 o'clock" when it was really 12.02 after someone asked you for the time? Let's not even begin to talk of "big sins" like telling your mom that you are almost at her place when you are just leaving your house:) That is how much many of us "want to sin."

Many of us who are under Grace today got so exhausted trying to obey the law in order to get right with God that it drove us to the ends of our tethers. No matter how much we tried, we could not keep it perfectly, and the law requires absolute perfection from all who are trying to obey it in a bid to get right with God or else the curse: Galatians 3:10-

"Anyone who tries to please God by obeying the Law is under a curse. The Scriptures say, “Everyone who doesn’t obey everything in the Law is under a curse.”"

The one who is trying to score points of righteousness with God through his own obedience rejects God's gift of righteousness to us that we have through Christ's obedience (Romans 5:19.). He has to obey EVERYTHING in the law, or else the curse.

For many of us who are under Grace, God used all of our running around trying to obey the law in a bid to be righteous and make heaven to cause us to experience what His Word says in Romans 3:20: "For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are." And by His grace, the purpose of the law was fulfilled in our lives without us realising it. See Romans 3:19-20-

“19 Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. 20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.”

Also Galatians 3:19: “Why then was the law given? It was meant to be an intermediary agreement added after God gave the promise of the coming One! It was given to show men how guilty they are, and it remained in force until the Seed was born to fulfill the promises given to Abraham.....”

The law was not given to for us to keep in order to get right with God or become godly. It was given to show up our guilt; to make us see how sinful we are; to make us see how much we need God's saving Grace- Jesus Christ through whose shed blood we are made righteous in God's sight and whose sacrifice keeps us from experiencing God's wrath-

"And there is still much more to say of His unfailing love for us! For through the blood of Jesus we have heard the powerful declaration, “You are now righteous in My sight.” And because of the sacrifice of Jesus, you will never experience the wrath of God." Romans 5:9.

Only the shed blood of Jesus Christ will suffice for the Almighty God to declare any righteous in His sight. No additives of human effort required. Many churchgoers are living lives of slavish dependence on “men of God" who push this satanic “do good; get good- obey the law to be godly” agenda to keep people under sin's dominion. Sin has dominion over those who are trying to obey the law in order to be godly/get right with God, "For sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under law but under Grace." Romans 6:14.

Many are yet to see the futility of getting right with God through works of the law and filthy rags (self) righteousnesses, an action that only cuts one off from Christ and causes one to fall from God's grace:

“For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.” Galatians 5:4.

Even the "good things" we do, if they are done in a bid to get right with, secure favour with or get from God (who Romans 8:32 says gives us ALL things FREELY with Christ) are like a menstrual rag in His sight according to Isaiah 64:6-

"We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in Your sight."

Those who think they can obey the law in order to be godly or score points of righteousness with God have no idea about its severity and how abominable the works of the law that they present to God are- like a menstrual rag. Works done by human effort with the aim of being godly/righteous (law-keeping) are an abomination to God. He gave us His own Son to make us righteous in His sight. Trying to obey the law to be godly is rejecting Christ who died to make us godly.

This doctrine of trying to be godly (be like God) by human effort at doing what the law commands is a doctrine of Satan; it is the same doctrine that Satan preached to Eve. She and Adam decided to be godly (be like God) by human effort after Satan deceived them so. See Paul's typology of the forbidden fruit as a picture of the law that many are trying to obey in order to be godly (be like God) in Romans 7:8-12 (MSG)-

"The law code started out as an excellent piece of work. What happened, though, was that sin found a way to pervert the command into a temptation, making a piece of “forbidden fruit” out of it. The law code, instead of being used to guide me, was used to seduce me...."

As he did with Eve, Satan, through his ministers in many places of worship, is still seducing people with the law, perverting the law into a temptation and making a piece of the forbidden fruit out of it. The aspiration that he sowed in Eve was not a bad thing; afterall, what is bad in desiring and trying to be godly by human effort? In fact, God wants us to be godly! Many in the church are trying to be godly today but are doing so after the example of Adam and Eve: many are trying to be like God (be godly/attain righteousness) through human effort; by trying to keep the law which only points out how sinful we are (Romans 3:20.) The result is still the same as it was with Adam and Eve: sin has dominion and the curse/death follows-

- "For sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under law but under Grace." Romans 6:14.

- "Anyone who tries to please God by obeying the Law is under a curse. The Scriptures say, “Everyone who doesn’t obey everything in the Law is under a curse.”" Gal. 3:10.

Believer, by grace, let's not be found here. The Law does not understand "it was just a little hyperbole" or "I unintentionally gave the wrong answer." The law does not understand the ethical reasons behind a person's actions or how one lied in order to keep someone from dying. The Law demands that every sin be punished to the uttermost - Death. Plus James 2:10 says- "For whosoever shall keep the whole law yet stumble at one point, he is guilty of all." aka without Christ as our righteousness, the one who only lied about his location on the phone for a good reason is just as guilty as the world's vilest homosexual pedophile. This might seem unfair to many until we realise something:

The reason we are not committing particular sins is because we have not been tempted beyond what we can bear in those areas. The potential to commit heinous crimes is in everybody but like Peter who boasted that he would never deny Jesus, favourable circumstances make some people think that some sins are beneath them. God sees this potential to sin and how these favourable circumstances can make some people think that some sins are beneath them and that they can obey the law in order to be godly. This is why some people can say foolish things like: "Yes, we are saved by Grace but you still have to obey the law and do so and so...." Neither cold nor hot!

As if we could do anything of ourselves. Believer, there is nothing like "I can never do that" or "I will always do that" in the life of anybody. God's word says "The arm of flesh will fail" but false teachers say we should put confidence in human effort! Proverbs 16:18 counsels us:

"Your boast becomes a prophecy of a future failure. The higher you lift up yourself in pride, the harder you’ll fall in disgrace."

If it were up to human effort, no sin is beneath anybody. Believer, this is the only reason why we are not committing particular sins: 1 Corinthians 10:12-13-

12 "So beware if you think it could never happen to you, lest your pride becomes your downfall. 13 We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust Him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously."

If God was not filtering and screening, we'd all be wallowing in heinous sins. But we often think we did good all by ourselves.

Believer, let's be for the law for the purpose for which it was given: to show up our guilt. The law can never justify anyone in the sight of God. The letter kills. But does this mean that we are now free to go on sinning sprees?

Certainly not!

Christ did not come to make it okay for us to sin. NEVER!!! His death does not in any way diminish the law. His death magnifies the law. Only the sinless blood of the Lamb of God can fulfil its righteous requirements. He came to save us from our sins. Through His blood, God sees all who believe in Him as righteous through and through, and not because we obeyed the law or did anthing to deserve His wonderful gift. Titus 2:14 says of Christ:

“He gave His life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us His very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.”

False teachers will tell you to rely on your own striving by human effort aka the arm of flesh that will fail to transform yourself to be godly (be like God) but they reject the power of Christ to save even the vilest offender who believes from his sins and transform him to godliness. Believer, beware of such false doctrines. This has always been Satan's strategy since Eden. The arm of flesh will fail. Satan's ministers behind many pulpits tell you what to do BY HUMAN EFFORT in order to be righteous/godly and be saved from hell. But in Christ, God Himself provided the Way for us to be godly/righteous and have eternal life: Jesus Christ.

Try to obey the law to be godly and sin will have dominion. But believe Romans 5:9-

"And there is still much more to say of His unfailing love for us! For through the blood of Jesus we have heard the powerful declaration, “You are now righteous in My sight.” And because of the sacrifice of Jesus, you will never experience the wrath of God."

Believe what God's Word says in Romans 5:9 and you will live in triumph over sin and death through Jesus Christ:

"For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one Man, Jesus Christ."

This is the message of the cross. According to 1 Corinthians 1:18, 21- 18 "To preach the message of the cross seems like sheer nonsense to those who are on their way to destruction, but to us who are on our way to salvation, it is the mighty power of God released within us." ... 21 "For in His wisdom, God designed that all the world’s wisdom would be insufficient to lead people to the discovery of Himself. He took great delight in baffling the wisdom of the world by using the simplicity of preaching the story of the cross in order to save those who believe it."

Christ saves from sin and death. Believer, ask the Lord to rid your heart of every false doctrine that you still carry and lead you on the path of righteousness. He loves us so and wants none to perish.

The Holy Spirit will teach you all things.

Believe Right and you will Live Right.
