Response.....

Here goes:
1. What do you think of churches that mix grace and law for example, you are saved by grace but for you to enjoy God's blessings you need to keep covenants e.g. God's commitment/faithfulness is dependent on your action/inaction.

Hello! May the Lord bless you and increase your thirst for Him in Jesus’ name. “Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” 2 Peter 1:2.

There’s content on the “neither cold nor hot church” (mixers of law and grace and how this happens) here- http://rightbelieving101.blogspot.com.ng/2017/04/christs-message-to-church-in-laodicea.html
It’s quite long:)

See Christ’s words to His beloved - the lukewarm church (He hates sin but loves the sinner): Revelation 3:19 - 22

“Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

Repent here is not “STOP SINNING.” If we could stop sinning on our own, we would not need our Saviour Jesus to save us from our sins. Even the holiest daddy in the Lord still sins and one sin is all it takes to be guilty of the whole law. Christ came to save us from our sins but this church feels quite comfortable in its ability to keep the Law. In Revelation 3:17-18, Christ says of this church

“Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed;”

People here feel that they are still “okay.” Because of their useless effort at keeping the Law, they do not know that they are naked (have no righteousness) and that they need white garments (Christ's righteousness). Repent here is “change your mind and attitude about God.” Stop thinking that you are righteous by your actions and inaction (works of the Law) and realise that you are made righteous by one Man’s obedience. Leave the Law alone and be fully under grace.

Notice that Christ is not inside the church but outside knocking! This “neither cold nor hot” Christians have been cut off from Christ by their actions and inactions (works of the Law) which they think makes them have right-standing with God. Galatians 5:4 says “For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.”

What’s more? Titus 2:11-14 tells us what Grace in the person of our Saviour Jesus Christ does in us and for us but because this church has fallen from Grace, they cannot access these benefits:

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”

Regarding God’s blessings being dependent on our actions and inactions:

Romans 8:32 tells us “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” ALL THINGS. All of God’s blessings are freely given to us because of our Saviour Jesus Christ in whom we are accepted by God’s grace (Ephesians 1:6 says “to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.”) and not because we fasted, gave to the poor, kept the Ten Commandments or paid our tithes. Wonderful as these things are, if they are done in order to be in God’s favour, they are works of the Law. Isaiah calls them (our own righteousnesses from works) menstrual rags - see Isaiah 64:6.

Galatians 5:4 says “For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.”

With Christ, we don’t do things to get from God; we get to do things that please Him because “…it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13.

With Christ we don’t give to get: we get to give. We give more, hear the word more, love more and do exploits, yet not us but Christ in us.

Take giving (to those in need) for instance. Paul’s testimony of the church in Macedonia (2 Cor. 8) was that they were great givers; even though they were poor, they gave willingly and freely. But how? Paul explains their willingness and ability to give in 2 Corinthians 8:5-7 (MSG)–

“This was totally spontaneous, entirely their own idea, and caught us completely off guard. What explains it was that they had first given themselves unreservedly to God and to us. The other giving simply flowed out of the purposes of God working in their lives.”

Their giving wasn’t by determination and self-will, done out of a sense of duty or done with the aim of keeping the Law so that they could get from God. It was done out of love. It was their nature to give because Christ was alive in them.

This lukewarm church does not believe that God gives us all things freely with Christ, so they think have to give first or keep the Law before one can receive from God.

2. What do you think of altar calls that seem to be 'give your life to Jesus and He will give you all you want/answer all your prayers/give you all of your hearts desires' - the reason for coming out is to partake in God's blessings vs true repentance of/from sin.

Christ doesn’t discriminate about why you come to Him, as long as you come to Him to save you. In fact, you can’t come to Him unless our Lord God calls you says, John 6:44 – “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him [giving him the desire to come to Me]; and I will raise him up [from the dead] on the last day.” And there we were thinking that we decided to follow Jesus:)

It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance, like the prodigal son that returned home after wasting his inheritance. The prodigal son returned home because he was in a fix. He remembered his father’s servants enjoying free food and thought to return home as a servant so he could have food to eat. His father ran to meet him and kissed him in his unclean “pigful” state, even though it’s an abomination for Jews to touch anything pig. This is the heart of God towards us. Come to Him as you are with your sins and addictions and oppression (all ye that  labour and are heavy laden) and He will give you rest. It is having a relationship with Christ and unveiling His love for the sinner that matters.

Many churches don’t unveil or emphasize this love of Christ and how the Holy Spirit transforms us to the image of His glory, from glory to glory as we believe what He has accomplished for us on the cross. Many even preach that after the alter call, you are as righteous as your next sin. Who are they fooling! Even the holiest daddy in the Lord sins from time to time. Our righteousness in Christ is a gift apart from works.  Christ made a once for all payment for our sins – past, present and future.

Because He has made us righteous, our path “is like the morning sun that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.” Proverbs 4. You will not continue to sin and not because of your own effort and determination. The Holy Spirit transforms us to the image of the Lord’s glory, from one level of glory to another. Sin features in your life less and less. This is the logic of heaven,

"For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe." 1 Corinthians 1:21

3. I have been struggling with my Christian walk, but whenever I go to church, it seems all the messages have 'God's blessings' as the endpoint - to be honest, any progress I have made is because I listened to preachers from other ministries. What would you recommend I do?
4. Like I said I struggle with my Christian faith, how can God's grace help me with recurring sin/sinful habits?

Let the Lord our Shepherd love you into wholeness and fruitfulness.

You might not have it all together right now but when you, by God's grace, totally move your focus away from what you must do in order to be righteous and look to Christ to save you from all of your "sinkings," as He did with Peter, He will transform you to walk on water (overcome/do the impossible.)

We cannot transform ourselves to be like God (attain righteousness) by doing works of the Law. Romans 3:20 says "For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are."

The Accuser deceived Eve that she could do this and the result was death. The devil still goes around seeking whom to devour in this way - deceiving people that they have the power to do things that will make them be like God (become righteous.) By God's grace, don't be deceived. His accusations can stand only in the lives of those who are trying to be godly or righteous in God's sight by doing works of the Law which condemns all who try to keep it; and after condemnation comes judgment.

In Christ, our Lord God gives us His righteousness as a gift (Romans 5:19) and apart from works (what you do or do not do.) He does the transformation as we are beholding Him (looking in the mirror of our lives and seeing ourselves as righteous in Him) as it is written in 2 Corinthians 2:18 -

"And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit."

Believer, when you look into the mirror of your imperfect life, see not your flaws and failings but what our Lord God by His word says you are in Christ: His righteousness, "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." 2 Corinthians 5:21

Don't worry about how you will get your act together. Titus 2 tells us that Grace, in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ has this covered. In Christ, God is our Abba Father. When our kids have a problem or a need, they tell us and expect us to fix it! How much more our Father in heaven?

As the righteousness of God in Christ, your path is like the morning sun!

"But the path of the just (righteous) is like the light of dawn,
That shines brighter and brighter until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day." Proverbs 4:18.

Sins and addictions will melt away. Sickness, depression and oppression cannot withstand His glory. His Spirit dwells in us, giving life to our mortal bodies and transforming us to the image of His glory, from glory to glory.

The Holy Spirit will teach you all things.

Believe Right and you will Live Right.

  2. God bless you! By His grace, meditate on His word that tells us that in Christ, we are His righteousess (2 Cor. 5:21) and others that the Holy Spirit leads you to- mutter them under your breath and say them out loud. Remember Romans 10:10 - "For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." This salvation is the word "sozo" in the original Greek and it encompasses salvation from eternal damnatiom, acts of sin, sickness, disease, depression, oppression and everything else that's not right with man because of Adam's sin.

Do you have kids? See the Lord as your Daddy and you a helpless kid that does not know his left from his right. HE CAME TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS. He is always on our side.

Remember that you are not under law but under grace. Remember that in Christ, God has made you righteous apart from your works. When those thoughts about what a sorry excuse for a christian you are come knocking, bring them ALL into captivity to the obedience of Christ ( remember "by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous" in Romans 5:19) by confessing scripture that says you are righteous, from thinking bad thoughts to thinking that your 'comeuppance cometh' for that bad thing you've done....and worse. This is the devil subtly trying to remove you from your position of no condemnation in Christ to a position of condemnation so the curse of the law can be activated in your life, just the way he did with Eve, making her feel she needed to do more to be like God when she was already pleasing to God the way she was. We are accepted in the Beloved (Christ) and not because of our own efforts at attaining righteousness. Remember, as Christ is, so are we in this world.

It is His "Neither do I condemn you" that makes us "Go and sin no more."

    GOD BLESS YOU!
